how long it takes to see benefits of acupuncture

how long acupuncture treatment can work for you

Acupuncture originated in China thousands of years ago. It involves a method using very thin needles, which are strategically inserted in certain parts of the body.

Acupuncture improves the body’s functions and promotes the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomic sites–commonly referred to as acupuncture points, or acupoints.  Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on an ancient philosophy that describes the universe, and the body, in terms of two opposing forces: yin and yang. When these forces are in balance, the body is healthy.

People often ask how long it takes to see benefits of acupuncture.
The answer is that it depends. It depends on a lot of things. The results can vary from being completely better in one treatment, to requiring months of regular treatment. Some people are wonderful responders. They respond quickly, immediately, and completely. For some people, it can take several months. Most people are more in the middle. Depending on the condition, the intensity, how deep the problem is in the system, and how long people have had it, they have different responses.

Here are the main factors that will influence the results you’ll get from TCM and acupuncture treatment

  • How long the problem or conditions have been going on:With acupuncture, we show the nerves new ways to approach the symptoms and to create new habits of healing. This process can take time.
  • How severe the condition is: The more serious the condition, the longer and more frequent the treatment needs to be.
  • The willingness to change thought patterns and lifestyle and dietary habits: It also depends on how open and willing someone is to change or shift unhealthy lifestyle and dietary habits that contribute to their condition, as well as thought patterns that may affect the severity of conditions.

Generally, for complex or long-standing chronic conditions, one to two treatments per week for several months may be recommended.
For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required, usually three to six visits in total.

From my point of view , the number of treatments depends on the nature of the problem, the patient’s overall health, and his or her goals.

We generally analyze and determine the root cause factors in the first 1-2 appointments. From this assessment, we develop a prognosis and comprehensive treatment plan. At intervals, We re-evaluate this plan based on input from patients and observations of their responses.
