Yu Ping Feng San – Natural Herbal Remedy to Boost the Immune System

  • February 2, 2018

It is said that Ireland could be facing the deadliest outbreak of flu seen in the country in over 50 years. Many people are affected by the flu badly.

Some people choose to get a influenza vaccination. An alternative way is to boost your immune system using antiviral herbs or herbal formulas.

In Chinese medicine theory the reason people are more susceptible to virus is due to the deficiency of their energy (Qi) particularly Defensive Qi. the Defensive Qi circulates on the surface of the body, protecting the body from pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. When our Defensive Qi is strong, we are able to defend ourselves against illness and attacks. When it is weak, we easily get sick, fatigued and even energetically and emotionally drained. All illness, allergies, cancers and autoimmune disease have a weakness of the Defensive Qi as a contributing factor. Aside from keeping our immunity strong, Defensive Qi serves to warm the body; nourish the skin, hair, muscles and tendons; and even control opening and closing of the pores.

In western medicine, only viruses can cause viral infections. In Chinese medicine, viruses and other pathogens are ever present and do not generally pose a threat to health unless the Defensive Qii is weak and cannot protect the body. Therefore unlike the western medicine uses vaccination to trigger immune responses Chinese medicine focuses on building up the body’s defensive energy.

One of the most famous herbal formula to increase the body’s Defensive energy/immunity is called Yu Ping Feng San (Jade Windscreen powder).

There are 3 herbs in this herbal formula. The main herb is Astragalus root. Astragalus is one of the main herb used in Chinese medicine to reinforce the Defensive Qi and improve the immune system. It not only has antiviral properties but also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

The second herb is called Fang Feng. The name Fang Feng originates from the phrase, “guard against wind.” In the past, wind was considered dangerous because people believed it carried germs and spread diseases. It can also be applied to the body’s internal system where infection can spread as quickly as the wind. Either way, this medicinal plant got its name from its ability to protect the human body from any health threats whether they are internal or external. The healing properties of the Ledebouriella divaricata root have been known for centuries. According to ancient Chinese wisdom, this herb can help ward off a variety of infections and diseases.

The last herb is called Bai Zhu. The main function of Bai Zhu is to boost the digestive system which feeds into the Defensive energy.
